History of EEW

The beginnings of EEW

In 1936, a merchant named Hermann Klein took over a company in which wooden products had been previously fabricated. However, as Hermann Klein was a metal-worker, he began to manufacture steel products.

At first, vessels of all types were produced, such as compressed air cylinders for rail and road vehicles brake systems, propane gas cylinders, large buoys, fuel-oil tanks, pressure vessels, boilers, pipes for pipelines, special trailers for trucks and other cars, tank set-ups for tanker lorries (silo) etc.

Changes of the production programme

From 1950 to 1973, the main products were steel fuel-oil tanks. In the years 1973/74, an industrial upheaval (oil crisis) induced the management under the new leadership of Managing Director Gerhard Hein to change the production programme to large steel pipes for various purposes e.g. for the offshore industry (pipelines, construction pipes for platforms etc.).

This put an end to tank and pressure vessel production. In 1982, the former neighbouring 'Hoesch' factory was bought, this became EEW's 'Works'.

The latest developments of EEW

In 1991, the production of stainless steel pipes was started, and in the meantime a 13,2 m as well as a 12,2 m pipe production line were installed in Germany.

During recent years, Erndtebrücker Eisenwerk GmbH & Co.KG has established new pipe mills with a total production capacity of 400.000 tons in the EEW group.
