EEW was awarded in 2015 with the order for production of more than 12,200 tons of structural pipes and upstream pipes for the "Johan Sverdrup" project drilling rig. On the basis of a successful cooperation with the Norwegian construction company and EEW's customer Kvaerner, EEW succeeded in the first project phase to participate with further approx. 22,200 tons of steel pipes to contribute to building the other three platforms.
The "Johan Sverdrup" oil field is located off the Norwegian west coast and is one of the largest North Sea oil fields ever discovered by the energy company Statoil. The resources which experts estimate to be 1.7 to 3 million barrels of oil are the basis for one of the most important industrial projects for the future 50 years.
While the production of the more than 12,200 tons of steel pipes for Europe's largest Jacket construction, the foundation of the drilling rig, was completed in July 2016, the production of the additional 22,200 tons of structural pipes for the foundation of the drilling rig and the processing platform as well as for the Topside of the living quarter platform is following.
The production of the larger leg constructions, having diameters of up to 6 metres and lengths of up to 50 metres, was done until end of February in the Rostock plant. The installation of the first platform took place in summer 2017. The production of the first dash of crude oil, however, was done in 2019.
